Slug Pellets UpdateJanuary 2011Are you using Slug pellets? Know the law and your training requirements Slug Pellets which contain metaldehyde are used extensively to control slugs in agricultural and horticultural crop production.
Sadly this active ingredient in slug pellets is now being detected in the environment and a major campaign is underway to rapidly improve the awareness of farmers and operators on how to both reduce the impact of this pesticide on the environment, and improve the efficiency of slug control. One of the biggest issues for farmers is whether operators are working legally. Earlier this year it was realised many operators were applying pellets illegally, because they lacked the necessary PA4 qualification. Following discussion between the Metaldehyde Stewardship Group & NPTC City & Guilds and CRD, New arrangements are being put in place to address the gap. Slug Pellets Qualified or not?
